Role: UX/UI Design Teaching Assistant (TA) Duration: Full-time cohort (2018 – 2019)

I was selected from the top of my graduating class to mentor the next cohort of 20+ students, moving from doing the work myself to helping other people do it well.

What the role involved

• Mentorship: 1-on-1 guidance on Sketch and InVision, helping students work through UI problems and UX research.
• Critique and QA: ran design crits and gave direct feedback on student prototypes against real usability and accessibility standards.
• Front-end support: helped debug HTML/CSS for student portfolio sites.
• Curriculum input: worked with lead instructors to find gaps in the curriculum and build workshops to close them.

Teaching forced me to explain design decisions in plain language to people who weren't designers. I still rely on that whenever I'm presenting to a room that isn't all design.
